Exercise Positively

Today I did the exercises that helped my back last year.  I haven't done them in a long time and I really don't know why I stopped.  They basically consist of leg drops, side lying leg raises, side lying leg sweeps and side lying leg circles--all while keeping your center engaged and as still as possible, and your back in neutral.  It's a lot to think about, but doing ten reps on each side (2 sets of the leg drops) each day can really make a difference.

The point, however, is that I did it!  I exercised today even though everything hurt.  My ankles groaned and my wrists complained.  My fingers stiffened and my knee protested.  But I still did it.

I think a good attitude can get you far.  How about you?

I am 100% favor of the positive attitude! Can't succeed without it.
Good for you for exercising.

Thanks, Diane. I should say that exercise is nothing new to me--I was a constant presence at the Y before Christmas and now do Yoga and these at-home exercises. I played soccer for 11+ years and love being active with my kids. I'm all for a hike in the spring or skiing in the winter. But these little steps I now have to celebrate, because I took them for granted before.

A positive attitude is not a cure-all, but it can make a difference.

You're so spunky! :)

Good for you! I often forget to do my exercises but I always feel better in the long run when I do.

I agree about a positive attitude and also about exercise. I am 52 and if I don't go to the gym, I get grumpy. I have an urge to look into Pilates as well. Keep exercising.

Having a positive attitude always help. I am glad you did your routine. If I am not into my workout, I just can not do it.

I used to have some back exercises I would do. It's been so long since I've done them, I can't even remember what they were. I do know they helped a lot. I was working as a nursing assistant at the time and I did a lot of heavy lifting and I was on my feet for nearly 8 hours a day.

Hi Michelle,

Doing beautiful things indeed! I also have a blog about my health problems and I understand this joy you write about, of accomplishing simple things! It seems like you know what you are capable of. You also seem highly attuned to your body -- it's funny how illness and exercise can do that! Activity seems to make me extra aware of my symptoms, yet it feels good! Strange...

Keep spreading the love!
